OVERVIEW
Welcome to the Master’s program MA Design: Sustainability & Product Innovation in collaboration with the UK university Middlesex University London. The program is a specialization of the Master of Arts in Design, the only interdisciplinary & multidisciplinary postgraduate Design program in Greece, since its launch in 2003.
The MA Design: Sustainability & Product Innovation is offered for Full-Time and Part-Time study, leading to a University Master’s Degree.
Recognizing the pedagogical challenges and modern demands of education, AKTO selects user-friendly methods and contemporary teaching design models, providing each student with a range of tools to facilitate the educational process. Program students receive an account for the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) of Microsoft Office 365, as well as free provision of Autodesk CAD 2D/3D design software for their personal computers.

Design exists to create “solutions” to human needs and desires. Through the visualization and functional study of each “solution,” designers balance between effective service, socio-historical documentation, and aesthetic excellence.
AKTO’s MA in Design is the only cross-disciplinary Master’s programme in Design in the country, with many years of presence and contribution to research and professional specialization, offering contemporary directions of study.
MA in Design: Sustainability & Product Innovation focuses on designing products with a sustainable character and innovative approaches, aiming at developing functional, aesthetic, and ecologically responsible solutions. In AKTO’s MA in Design: Sustainability & Product Innovation, students gain knowledge and skills covering the whole spectrum of product design — from conceiving the idea to production and commercial promotion.
The programme aims to shape strong designers with critical thinking, a research mindset, and both individual and social responsibility. Students go on to master new knowledge in order to apply it professionally in new contexts that broaden the horizons of design — both in content and in form. Graduates of the programme gain deep understanding and training across all relevant fields of their studies, learning the most contemporary theories and applications, so as to meet the needs of today’s market with a pioneering mindset and specialization.

AKTO’s university Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, awarded in collaboration with Middlesex University London, are recognized as professionally equivalent, in accordance with Presidential Decree 38/2010, as amended by Law 4093/2012, 4111/2013, 4205/2013, and 4635/2019. Middlesex University London is recognized by DOATAP as an institution equivalent to Greek Higher Education Institutions. AKTO’s postgraduate programmes are recognized in both the private and public sector for employment purposes. In accordance with Presidential Decree 38/2010, as amended by Law 4093/2012, 4111/2013, 4205/2013, and 4635/2019, professional equivalence is recognized by A.T.E.E.N., for university Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Greece. Holders of these degrees are able to take part in ASEP competitions, in accordance with Article 13 of Law 4148/2013.

Intake Periods
For the Postgraduate Study Programmes, the academic year has two (2) intake periods. The first period is in October, followed by the second period in February.

Enrollment Requirements
Candidates for the Postgraduate Study Programmes must hold an undergraduate degree or have more than 5 years of professional experience in a field relevant to the Master’s programme they choose. Candidates for the programme go through an interview with an evaluation committee, following submission of the relevant application and the required supporting documents.

AKTO uses the most popular and up-to-date platform for synchronous and asynchronous learning, in partnership with Microsoft: MS Teams. Students can install the application either from the Play Store / App Store on mobile phones, or from the website on computers.
