Programme Structure
YEAR 01
The first year includes 6 modules that introduce you to the basic theoretical and design principles of Product Design, covering the creation of products, objects, and services.
Class schedules are mainly in the morning and early afternoon, in order to smoothly support the transition into the new academic reality, giving members of the student community the necessary “space” for systematic practice, guidance, and intensive presence in the studios. At the same time, this schedule also makes it easier for those who have recently completed secondary education to be smoothly integrated into the daily study programme.
At the end of the year, you can choose one of the two available second-year specializations: Industrial Innovation or User Experience.
Throughout your studies, we provide advisory guidance so that you are fully informed about the content of each specialization and the professional prospects they offer, helping you make the best choice based on your interests and professional ambitions.
SEMESTER 01 | MODULES
• Fundamental Principles of Composition & Design Theory
• Concepts of Product Design
• Principles & Processes of Product Design
SEMESTER 02 | MODULES

During the development of your research project you will receive consistent guidance and supervision both from your instructors and from your fellow students, aiming to achieve a high level of results and develop a steady work rhythm throughout the semester.
Classes take place both in the morning/early afternoon and in the late afternoon/evening, allowing for substantial research and practical work, while also making it easier for members of the student community to be professionally active. Career Prospects & Academic Progression
Industry Now
Since its inception, Product Design has functioned as a mediator between technology, industrial production, and the user. The constant evolution of technology shapes our daily lives, our habits, and the products we use. Always centred on the user and their needs, Product Design determines how technology interacts with them. By observing and analyzing behaviours, needs, and perceptions, it aims to create new, innovative products that improve and advance the user experience. As the world around us evolves both technologically and socially, the role of Product Design becomes increasingly necessary and acts as a catalyst for improving our way of life.
Product design trends today focus on human-centred innovation, sustainable design, experimental typography, minimalism, and immersive animated designs. Consumers are increasingly hungry for new technology, but also for products that are friendlier to society and the planet. It’s clear that the discussion around climate change inevitably has an impact on product design. At the same time, contemporary and complex technology seeks interoperability, as well as connectivity between different smart devices. Behaviour patterns, preferences, and needs present new characteristics and challenges for today’s Industrial Designers, creating exciting new design possibilities.
Professional Career
Graduates of the Product Design programme are in high demand at start-ups and large product-based companies, as well as software companies. Areas of professional activity include, among others, the following:
- Product design
- Industrial design
- Colour technology
- Production design for theatre/television/film
- Product Design and Development
- Furniture Design
- Vehicle Design and Development (Cars – Boats)
- Packaging Design
- Design of Special Structures (Exhibition stands, etc.)
- App Design, Digital Design, UX Design, UI Design
- Brand Creation and Development
- 3D Object Design and Prototyping
A Product Designer can work as a freelancer with their own collections, and by discovering material suppliers and partners in specialized fields such as AI, software design, the circular economy, and others, they can really stand out very quickly in the market. AKTO’s Careers Office helps graduates connect with the job market and a wide range of professional activity across various fields. AKTO Alumni is the largest 360˚ Art & Design community in Greece.
