Libraries
In today’s competitive environment, which now extends beyond national borders, every young artist and designer must keep up with developments and embrace a philosophy of continuous learning and research in their specialized field. To this end, AKTO boasts the largest specialized private Art and Design library in Greece, distributed across its two campuses in Athens (Main Library) and Thessaloniki. It features a continuously evolving collection and highly trained staff proficient in library service organization and management.
AKTO’s libraries constitute the core of the institution. Their mission is to support the teaching work of the faculty and serve the needs of the students, thereby contributing to their intellectual development and social growth. Their main objective is to support Research, Knowledge, and Information. The libraries also function as reading rooms and feature specially designed computer areas with Internet access and Microsoft Office. Access to the libraries is available not only to AKTO students, alumni, and faculty but also to external visitors.
The college library is organized according to international standards. It features an online catalog, where users can browse approximately 40,000 entries of books, journals, audiovisual material, ebooks, DVDs, CDs, VHS, podcasts, and Diploma Theses in undergraduate BA (Hons) and postgraduate Master of Arts programs within the following thematic categories:

OPAC (Open Public Access Catalogue)
The OPAC (Open Public Access Catalogue) electronic catalogue of AKTO’s Libraries is used to search the material available in the AKTO library’s collection.
The goal of the OPAC catalogue is to give users and readers the ability to search for the information they need, even if they only know one detail of the item/book, searching by Keyword, Title, Author, Subject, ISBN, etc. so that they get further assistance with their research. OPAC is a modern, integrated library system based on Anglo-American cataloguing rules (AACR2) and the MARC 21 standard for bibliographic data. We are proud that our library is the first online Art & Design library in Greece, powered by Koha.

International digital library JSTOR
AKTO offers all members of its community, through their dedicated account, access to the international digital JSTOR library, an extremely rich and constantly updated platform, with over twelve million articles, books, and primary sources. Access is provided through the subscription covered by the School.
Art Resource
Art Resource is a collection of 500,000 images of artworks from all historical periods, which you can search by theme.
Google Art Project
The Google Art Project provides access to thousands of high-resolution, documented images of artworks from museums around the world. Users can enjoy artworks “up close” as well as take virtual tours of the world’s largest museums.

OpenAire offers open-access content (articles, books, research data, projects, etc.) from the European community.

Europeana Collections
Europeana provides access to millions of books and artworks digitized by various cultural organizations from countries across Europe.

Online resources to help with research, using the catalogue, and writing bibliographic citations according to academic standards.
10,000 Titles of AKTO Student Theses
Access to Undergraduate (BA) and Postgraduate (MA) theses (print and digital), completed by AKTO students in collaboration with Middlesex University London.
Ordering Articles & Journals
Through the EDETV Interlibrary Loan System (National Union Catalogue of Scientific Journals), it is possible to order journal articles from the libraries participating in the network.
