Online Teaching
The Distance Learning programme is specially designed for those who wish to study Art & Design, but for whom lack of time, work, or family commitments are significant obstacles to achieving that goal. It is also aimed at those who live in Greece, Cyprus, or abroad and want to study Art & Design while staying where they live. With the best possible student experience in mind, students on the programme receive an account on Microsoft Office 365’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), as well as free access to Adobe Creative Cloud & CAD 2D/3D design software from Autodesk for their personal computer.
The academic year in the Distance Learning study programmes is completed through weekly meetings using a dedicated online platform. Specifically, attendance is limited to one afternoon per week. Classes take place at scheduled times set for the entire academic year, so that members of the student community can organize their time and commitments accordingly.
The educational process in Distance Learning follows four steps that cover the “distance”:
- Theoretical and Practical Presentations
- Applying Theory through Exercises
- Practical Exercise at Home
- Evaluation – Feedback
More specifically, at each meeting, students are taught the theory and, under the guidance of instructors, apply it by carrying out exercises and projects. They then absorb the material by completing similar exercises at home and, finally, their work is assessed by their instructors. Between meetings, students’ contact with AKTO is facilitated through email and group calls via Teams.
The programme’s Coordinator monitors each student’s progress individually, and supports their studies by resolving issues they encounter at academic and administrative level. It should be noted that all the School’s services are available to students throughout the duration of their studies.
